MOCO Top-20 Most Watched Videos
Oct. 23-Oct. 30

While the Seneca Valley vs. Damascus football game didn’t get as many hits as one would think considering it’s a top-notch 3A football rivalry, Joe’s run was on replay in somebody’s household. I wonder who it could be. Thanks, Rankins!

We saw a push from the non-football sports this week, especially boys soccer and volleyball, which is awesome! Even though Magruder fell to Good Counsel last week they still came out to watch the videos. Well done, ladies! Magruder’s boys soccer team made up for the loss by coming back to beat Wootton on Tuesday and then coming back to the site! I’ve gotta give a shout out to the student PA announcer at Magruer and his friends who created DigitalSports promo skits. You guys are by far the best PA announcers out there!

Without further ado…

1. Joe Rankin 52-yard run
This was huge in the context of the game, giving Seneca Valley enough yardage and enough time to hold off Damascus.

MOCO Football Poll: Week 8

Montgomery County Top-15
Week 8

1.    Sherwood, (8-0), LW 1
Sherwood is on a roll and looking like the 4A favorite with Quince Orchard battling injuries to its No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks, Kevin Adams and Travis Hawkins. The Warriors should watch out for a desperate Gaithersburg team who will be playing at home this Friday, however.
Next: Friday at Gaithersburg, 6:30

2.    Seneca Valley, (8-0), LW 2
Seneca Valley went into Damascus and won. That’s saying something, for sure. But Damascus showed late in the game that Eagles don’t have the 3A sown up just yet. The Hornets, especially if they develop more of a passing game, will be a handful again in the playoffs.
Next: Friday vs. Churchill, 6:30

3.    Quince Orchard, (7-1), LW 3
Quince Orchard had no trouble ending Walter Johnson’s win streak, but how will the Cougars fare against Springbrook on Friday? It will be the Cougars’ first tough test after the quarterback injuries.
Next: Friday vs. Springbrook, 6:30

4.    Clarksburg, (8-0), LW 4
Two weeks ago Clarksburg showed it has balance on offense between passing and running. Last week it showed the balance between offense and defense. The Coyotes, who had some minor bumps earlier this year, are on a roll.
Next: Friday vs. Einstein, 6:30

5.    Damascus, (6-2), LW 5
Damascus needs to develop a passing game. Seneca Valley knew Brian Lucas was going to run the ball nearly every play and he (and the Damascus offensive line) was still chewing up Seneca Valley. But in the end a penalty that made Damascus throw showed the Hornets’ weakness.
Next: Friday at Blair, 6:30

6.    Churchill (6-2), LW 6
The Bulldogs responded to an upset loss against Magruder with a 12-point win over Whitman. It’s not exactly a huge statement considering Churchill blew out a defensive Northwest team just three weeks ago. The Bulldogs are fighting for a playoff spot and it may come down to their game next week against Wootton, but a win over Seneca Valley would be huge.
Next: Friday vs. Seneca Valley, 6:30

7.    Northwest, (5-3), LW 7
The Jaguars kept their playoff hopes alive with a close win over Springbrook. Quince Orchard is a whole different beast, however. If the Jags can knock them off, they’ll be sitting pretty.
Next: Friday at Quince Orchard, 6:30

8.    Wootton, (5-3), LW 8
Mike Mooney continued to put up ridiculous numbers and lets not forget about his receivers. Stephane N’goumou, Matt Paris, Andrew Rosenblatt and Matt Scherer have turned a lot of short passes into long gains. Wootton is currently in the No. 5 spot in the MPSAA points rankings.
Next: Friday vs. Richard Montgomery, 6:30

9.    Gaithersburg, (5-3), LW 9
The Trojans notched their first shutout of the year and found sophomore quarterback Zack Fetters. They are in a must-win yet again this week against Sherwood. This will be an amped-up game.
Next: Friday vs. Sherwood, 6:30

10.    Springbrook (5-3), LW 10
Springbrook was in the driver’s seat for the playoffs but after a loss to Northwest the Blue Devils are back to scrapping. The Blue Devils have two very winnable games left, but will that be enough? That Week 1 loss to Gaithersburg is painful right now.
Next: Saturday vs. Northwest, 1

11.    Magruder (3-5), LW 11
The Colonels just couldn’t handle Wootton’s passing game and now don’t have a shot at the postseason.
Next: Friday at Blake, 6:30

12.    Paint Branch, (5-3), LW 13
Paint Branch is on the outside of the 3A playoffs looking in. They must get a win over a scrappy Watkins Mill team and then have to beat Damascus in the final week of the season. Tracy Martin Jr. seems capable of leading that charge.
Next: Saturday vs. Watkins Mill, 1

13.    Rockville (4-4), LW 12
The Rams fell behind early to a very good North Point team and despite having a better second half it wasn’t nearly enough. The Rams are reeling with three straight losses but winless Poolesville is on deck.
Next: Friday at Poolesville, 6:30

14.    Einstein (4-4), LW 14
Einstein’s potential chance of an upset over Clarksburg didn’t pan out as the Coyotes shut down Malcolm Crockett. But the Titans can still have a winning season, which would be a major accomplishment. With Seneca Valley looming in Week 10, a win in this week’s game against B-CC could at least secure a non-losing season.
Next: Friday vs. Bethesda-Chevy Chase, 6:30

15.    Blair (4-4), LW 15
The Blazers snapped their losing streak by beating up on Kennedy, a playoff team from last year. It’s certainly been a turnaround, successful year for the Silver Spring school.
Next: Friday vs. Damascus, 6:30

Monday Morning Quarterback: Week 8

Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week: Jaiquan Moore, Seneca Valley
Moore battled for this award with Damascus running back Brian Lucas. In a game where passing was nearly impossible against stingy defenses, the two running backs took over. Moore, however, gets the honor for his two touchdowns and for leading his team to the win. Moore ran for 92 yards on 22 carries.

Defensive Player(s) of the Week: Clarksburg Coyotes
The signs pointed to Clarksburg having trouble against Einstein running back Malcolm Crockett. Crockett had rushed for more than 300 yards in back-to-back games and Clarksburg surrendered 200 yards to Rockville’s Crusoe Gongbay the week before. Try this – Crockett was held to 39 yards on 24 carries.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Marcus Whitfield, Northwest
OK, so Whitfield wouldn’t exactly be called a special teams player. But he is Northwest’s punter, so that definitely counts. Whitfield turned a low punt snap into a 54-yard scamper up the sidelines that set up the Jaguars first of two touchdowns in a 14-11 win over Springbrook.

Offensive Play of the Week: Ashton Foster, Northwest
Foster broke off a 52-yard run on Northwest’s first play of the second half against the Blue Devils. That touchdown would prove to be the game-winning score.

Defensive Play of the Week: Aaron Greene, Northwest
The Jaguars continue to rack up the awards with a big win over Springbrook that extended their shot at making the 4A playoffs. With the Blue Devils driving in the fourth quarter, Greene intercepted a pass in the end zone to preserve the Jaguars’ lead.

Hit of the Week: Jaiquan Moore, Seneca Valley
Moore ran over Damascus linebacker Brian Lucas twice. The first was when he leapt over the defensive line and into Lucas’ arms on the goal line. The second was on a short run on the following drive. Bottom line – Moore is a handful.

Quote of the Week: Jaiquan Moore, Seneca Valley
“I’m going to run hard at them and they’re going to run hard at me at the best man come out on top. And we came out on top.”

Round Up

Game of the Week: Seneca Valley 13, Damascus 7
It looked like the Eagles were going to hold control of this game throughout. But just when Damascus’ offense seemed extinct, Brian Lucas revived it. The Hornets drove all the way into Seneca Valley’s red zone before stalling on a game-winning drive.

Clarksburg 34, Einstein 6
The Coyotes have now beaten two solid teams in a row, both times convincingly. The run defense showed it can bear down on a pretty darn good runner.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase 40, Poolesville 14
The Barons get their first win of the season over winless Poolesville. B-CC may have found their running back for the next few years in sophomore Matt Bookman, who ran 18 times for 230 yards. Those numbers put him in Offensive Player of the Week consideration.

Blair 27, Kennedy 8
Quarterback Victor Wang threw a pair of touchdown passes and running backs Keith Ayensu and Pablo Moreno each rushed for touchdowns as Blair ended its three-game losing streak.

Churchill 18, Whitman 6
The Bulldogs got out to an 18-point lead on touchdown runs by Alex Kantor and Ryan Quinn. Churchill improves to 6-2 and in position to reach the playoffs.

Gaithersburg 33, Watkins Mill 0
The Trojans notched their first shutout of the season against former assistant coach Joe Rydzewski and Watkins Mill. Serge Kona caught two straight touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback Zach Fetters.

North Point 34, Rockville 14
The Rams notch two second-half touchdowns from Crusoe Gongbay and Josue Gaitan after North Point, of Charles County, rushes out to a comfortable lead. It’s Rockville’s third straight loss.

Northwest 14, Springbrook 11
The Jaguars kept their playoff hopes alive with a wet win on Saturday. With each team’s offenses struggling, Northwest used a big run by Marcus Whitfield on a punt and a 52-yard touchdown jaunt by Ashton Foster to win.

Paint Branch 40, Blake 9
Tracy Martin Jr. continues to get the job done. He ran for 102 yards on 10 carries and passed for 123 yards on 8-of-13 passing.

Quince Orchard 42, Walter Johnson 6
Walter Johnson entered coming off a win. Quince Orchard came off a loss. Just saying… Quince Orchard’s new quarterback Cody Schecter passed for two touchdowns.

Sherwood 61, Richard Montgomery 0
The Warriors sure didn’t have a lapse after their big win against Quince Orchard. Sherwood is trucking to the No. 1 spot in the 4A West playoffs.

Wootton 37, Magruder 20
The Patriots avoid an potential upset to remain in the thick of the 4A West playoff race. Mike Mooney continues his unbelievable season, passing for 305 yards and three touchdowns.

Top-20 Videos: Oct. 17-23

Montgomery County Top-20 Videos
Oct. 16-22

After looking at the numbers, I decided it doesn’t make much sense to limit this to a Top-10. So why not do Top-20?!?!?! These rankings are judged by how many video plays and individual video gets on DigitalSports and therefore are not opinion based. If you want to move up the rankings then click the videos below!

Of course, the limitations I have is that I can only judge on video I have and i’m sure there are equally impressive videos out there. Thus, please look into our FanShare program and get your videos seen!

1. Aaron Smith massive hit
Smith’s hit racked up massive hits on the website. And it deserves to be seen over and over again. This is textbook tackling.

2. Steven Gamble huge hit
Gamble’s hit against Quince Orchard was right up there with Smith’s, but you Sherwood guys just gotta keep watching this if you want to not only surpass QO but also Walter Johnson football!

3. Paul Okeyo interview
Okeyo is the star at Walter Johnson and of course people want to say what he has to say after his first varsity win.

4. Paul Okeyo huge hit
This was the Hit of the Week in Monday Morning Quarterback and I feel with good reason.

5. Northwood’s Taylor D’Ottavi goal
This is just sick. D’Ottavi scores from 32 yards out on a bullet of shot to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime. OK, so maybe there was a stiff wind to his back, but this was nonetheless miraculous.

6. Phillip Durity big hit

7. Steven Gamble interview

MOCO Football Poll: Week 7

Montgomery County Top-15

1.    Sherwood, (7-0), LW 2
The Warriors knocked off the big dog, ending Quince Orchard’s 20-game winning streak, and putting themselves atop the 4A. Zack Splain continues to make big time plays at quarterback and Steven Gamble has been a monster on defense.
Next: Saturday vs. Richard Montgomery, 6:30

2.    Seneca Valley, (7-0), LW 3
The Eagles haven’t played a competitive game in four weeks since they faced Paint Branch. Finally, a team that could challenge Seneca Valley is next in Damascus. This could be a potential 3A West region final preview.
Next: Friday at Damascus, 6:30

3.    Quince Orchard, (6-1), LW 1
Friday’s loss hurt both mentally and physically. Losing starting quarterback Kevin Adams hurts and then seeing Travis Hawkins taken out on a stretcher is just unsightly. The Cougars now turn to senior Cody Schecter under center.
Next: Friday vs. Walter Johnson, 6:30

4.    Clarksburg, (7-0), LW 4
The Coyotes displayed a fine-tuned, balanced offense against Rockville in a sound beating of an opponent that they beat by a combined 7 points in two games last year.
Next: Friday vs. Einstein, 6:30

5.    Damascus, (6-1), LW 6
Much like Seneca Valley, the Hornets haven’t played any close games in a while. That will change this Friday. It’s just a shame Damascus doesn’t have sophomore Connor Frazier playing. Brian Lucas will carry the load.
Next: Friday vs. Seneca Valley, 6:30

6.    Churchill (5-2), LW 5
What happened? Churchill was blowing out teams left and right and then scored only 7 points in a last-second loss to Magruder. I’m thinking this a likely just a hiccup because Churchill is still very very good. The Bulldogs can’t afford another hiccup against Whitman, however.
Next: Friday at Whitman, 6:30

7.    Northwest, (4-3), LW 7
Beating Gaithersburg was huge. It puts Northwest back in the thick of the playoffs hunt. It doesn’t get any easier this week, however.
Next: Saturday at Springbrook, 1

8.    Wootton, (4-3), LW 8
Mike Mooney and his cast of receivers are simply incredible. Wootton is one of those teams that, if they make the playoffs, nobody is going to want to face. But for now the Patriots must watch out for a Magruder team that just snake-bit Churchill.
Next: Friday at Magurder, 6:30

9.    Gaithersburg, (4-3), LW 9
The Trojans could have badly used a win over Northwest. Still, they are tied with the Jaguars in the standings and there’s still time to make a run.
Next: Friday vs. Watkins Mill, 6:30

10.    Springbrook (5-2), LW 11
The Blue Devils can make a big statement this week if they are able to knock off Northwest. Springbrook has been yearning for a win over a big-time 4A school and after close losses to Gaithersburg and Sherwood, this is its final chance.
Next: Saturday vs. Northwest, 1

11.    Magruder (3-4), LW 14
Magruder notched one win over a top-tier Montgomery team. Now can the Colonels do it again against Wootton? Keep in mind, Magruder’s losses this season have come against Quince Orchard, Sherwood, Damascus and Springbrook – some of the county’s best teams.
Next: Friday at Churchill, 6:30

12.    Rockville (4-3), LW 10
Sophomore running back Crusoe Gongbay can only do so much. He ran for 200 yards against Clarksburg but Rockville’s offense still sputtered out at key moments. Rockville faces a touch out-of-conference opponent this week in Southern Maryland’s North Point.
Next: Friday at North Point, 7

13.    Paint Branch, (4-3), LW 12
Tracy Martin Jr. has done very well at quarterback since taking over for Eric Freniere. Last week he showed off his dual-threat style as Paint Branch looks to make a late-season run.
Next: Friday vs. Blake, 6:30

14.    Einstein (4-3), LW NR
Sophomore running back Malcolm Crockett rushed for more than 300 yards in a second straight game, the first time that’s been done since McDonough’s A.J. Wallace pulled off the same feat in 2005.
Next: Friday at Clarksburg, 6:30

15.    Blair (3-4), LW 14
The Blazers have lost three straight since starting out 3-1 and are struggling with injuries at the moment.
Next: Thursday at Wootton, 6:30

Monday Morning Quarterback: Week 7

Weekly Awards
Click the “Videos” tab above the story to relive some of the weekend’s highlights

Offensive Player of the Week: Mike Cresham, Wootton
Let’s just say this, nobody has ever had a better passing performance than Cresham had this week. The Wootton senior broke the Maryland state record for passing yards in a game by throwing for 451 yards in a 36-7 win over Blair.

Defensive Player of the Week: Paul Okeyo, Walter Johnson
Okeyo was dominant against Poolesville, recording 11 tackles in his first-ever high school win. He also receives this award for continuously playing hard and believing in his team even when it didn’t exactly make his high school games enjoyable.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Mark Magus, Damascus
Mark Magus was 7-for-7 on extra points – extending his Maryland state record for most career extra points — and booted a 29-yard field goal, hauled in a 15-yard pass, made three tackles and had seven touchbacks.

Offensive Play of the Week: Zack Splain, Sherwood
On third-and-17, the snap went past Splain. He recovered it on the run, shook off one defender, leapt and threw at the same time while being hit and somehow found Steven Gamble for a 37-yard touchdown pass and Sherwood’s first touchdown.

Defensive Play of the Week: Sosthene Kapepula, Sherwood
Kapepula scooped up a bouncing fumble and returned it 45 yards for Sherwood’s second touchdown.

Special Teams Play of the Week: Gabriel Leal, Magruder
OK so there usually isn’t a STPW award but since there was so much special special teams play this week I decided to create it for this week only. It’s my MMQ and I can do it if I want! Anway, Leal pulls it out with his first career field goal on his first career attempt, a 31-yarder that gave Magruder a 10-7 win over Churchill. That’s just storybook stuff right there.

Hit of the Week: Paul Okeyo, Walter Johnson
Okeyo is an absolute wrecking ball and coaches from around the county have recognized it. Okeyo, who says he wants to go to Bowie, leveled several Poolesville runners but the one hit “see video” was just nasty.
Special metion goes out to Steven Gamble of Sherwood, who also can lay the wood and did so several times against QO. Again, see the video.

Quote of the Week: Coach Tom Mulholland, Walter Johnson
“Did an elephant slide off my back?”

Round-Up

Game of the Week: Sherwood 14, Quince Orchard 6
It was worth
another day’s wait for this one. The two teams were fired up right from
the start and so were the packed Sherwood bleachers in a meeting of two
undefeated teams. The two teams slugged it out with Sherwood
capitalizing on two big plays.

Runner-Up: Walter Johnson 40, Poolesville 15
OK,
so it wasn’t the most thrilling game but the post-game celebration was
absolutely classic and will be remembered by everybody present for
quite some time, including by this MMQ reporter.

Clarksburg 32, Rockville 14
Cody Martin threw for 148 yards and Mark Small rushed for 103 as Clarksburg overcame Crusoe Gongbay’s 200 yards rushing with a balanced offense.

Damascus 38, B-CC 3
The Swarmin Hornets did just fine without Connor Frazier in their first full game with him out.

Einstein 44, Watkins Mill 42 (2OT)
Malcolm Crockett, who was previously injured during the game, ran for a
touchdown on fourth down in the second overtime and the Titans held on
a two-point conversion to tie the game, giving Einstein a homecoming
win.

Magruder 10, Churchill 7
This was quite an upset, especially considering that Churchill was coming off a big win over Northwest. Marquis Morgan ran 28 times for 130 yards and a touchdown and of course give it up for Gabriel Leal and his field goal.

Northwest 30, Gaithersburg 22
The Jaguars special teams, a weak spot last year, forced two turnovers and blocked a punt and a
field goal. Quarterback Jarrhett Butler threw for 157 yards and two
touchdowns.

Paint Branch 41, Wheaton 0
Tracy Martin Jr. has done well since taking over at quarterback full
time. He passed 13 times for 158 yards and ran 10 times for 158 yards
on Friday.

Seneca Valley 50, Kennedy 0
Seneca Valley is now just one of two undefeated teams in Montgomery County. Mark Henderson notched three touchdowns and George Lerch threw for three and ran in another as Seneca Valley avenged a loss to Kennedy from last year.

Springbrook 38, Blake 14
Miles Gray ran for 170 yards on 23 carries as Springbrook improves to
5-2 on the year. Mitchell Pollard had three touchdowns, including one
on a fumble recovery in the end zone.

St. George’s Tech 48, Northwood 14
The Gladiators are struggling right now. On the flip side, I did see
quarterback Jimmy Hessler and his dad at the Sherwood game, if that
means anything – which it doesn’t.

Whitman 25, Richard Montgomery 20

Anthony Young-Wiseman ran for an 89-yard touchdown and caught two touchdown passes from sophomore quarterback Henry Kuhn.

Wootton 36, Blair 7
Despite Wootton’s offense being off the mark in the first quarter, it more than made up for it the rest of the game. Mooney just looks unstoppable at times.

MOCO Football Poll: Week 6

Montgomery County Top-15
Week 6

1.    Quince Orchard, (6-0), LW 1
Since a scare in Week 1 against Wootton, the Cougars have done nothing but proven that they are just as good as advertised and the leading contender to defend their 4A title. This week they’ll get a chance to cement themselves at the top.
Next: Friday at Sherwood, 6:30

2.    Sherwood, (6-0), LW 2
The Warriors finally didn’t have to sweat one out in the fourth quarter. Don’t expect that to continue this week. Sherwood will need another big game from quarterback Zack Splain.
Next: Friday vs. Quince Orchard, 6:30

3.    Seneca Valley, (6-0), LW 3
The Eagles have only been challenged twice this season. Northwest held the Eagles to one touchdown and Paint Branch kept their game close for about three quarters.
Next: Friday vs. Kennedy, 6:30

4.    Clarksburg, (6-0), LW 4
The Coyotes are a tough cookie to figure out. They blow out Top-15 teams out then get a scare from teams outside the rankings. This week, winless Bethesda-Chevy Chase had a 14-6 lead at one point. We may get more answers this week.
Next: Thursday at Rockville, 6:30

5.    Churchill (5-1), LW 7
The Bulldogs made a big statement by beating Northwest that they are legit this season. Curran Chabra, Ryan Quinn and Danny Holzman are perhaps the best offensive trio in the county.
Next: Friday vs. Magruder, 6:30

6.    Damascus, (5-1), LW 6
Junior running back Brian Lucas will need to continue to carry the load with sophomore quarterback Connor Frazier out for the rest of the season with a broken clavicle.
Next: Friday at Bethesda-Chevy Chase, 6:30

7.    Northwest, (3-3), LW 5
Northwest was the unfortunate victim of Churchill’s breakout. The Jaguars defense looked like its strong point early in the season (held Seneca Valley to six points) but has been ripped in two straight games.
Next: Friday vs. Churchill, 6:30

8.    Wootton, (3-3), LW 9
Wootton’s defense responded after giving up too many big plays against Northwest. The Patriots shut out Rockville.
Next: Thursday vs. Blair, 6:30

9.    Gaithersburg, (4-2), LW 10
The Trojans beat up on Blake, but that doesn’t tell us a whole lot
about this up-and-down team. Friday’s game against Northwest will be
huge in determining whether the Trojans return to the postseason.
Next: Friday at Northwest, 6:30

10.    Rockville (4-2), LW 8
The Rams took their first Montgomery County loss of the season, falling 20-0 against Wootton. That will be a distant memory, however, if Rockville can beat 2A foe Clarksburg.
Next: Friday vs. Clarksburg, 6:30

11.    Springbrook (4-2), LW 11
The Blue Devils topped Paint Branch but it wasn’t the effort Coach Rob Wendel was looking for as the game came down to the final drive. The Blue Devils haven’t been able to find consistency but have found a playmaker in Marcus Pollard.
Next: Friday vs. Blake, 6:30

12.    Paint Branch, (3-3), LW 12
The Panthers and starting quarterback Tracy Martin Jr., looked very good early on against Springbrook but made key mistakes late in the game. If Paint Branch wants to reach the 3A playoffs it needs to get on a run.
Next: Friday at Wheaton, 6:30

13.    Magruder (2-4), LW 14
Magruder didn’t pose much of a threat against Damascus. The Colonels still have time to get back into the chase, however, and it starts this Friday against Churchill.
Next: Friday at Churchill, 6:30

14.    Blair (3-3), LW 14
Sherwood was on another level. Blair is still having a breakout season compared to last year but will need its defense to step up if it’s going to stop Wootton.
Next: Thursday at Wootton, 6:30

15.    Einstein (3-3), LW NR
Coach Mike Bonavia and sophomore running back Malcolm Crockett have reversed the Titans this season. Einstein already matched last season’s win total with its first homecoming win since 2004. The Titans face last week’s No. 15 team Watkins Mill next.
Next: Friday at Watkins Mill, 6:30

Monday Morning Quarterback: Week 6

Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week: Curran Chabra, Churchill
Chabra was nearly perfect Friday night – in fact he would have had a perfect passer rating by NFL standards. He went 10-of-12 for 253 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions as the Bulldogs rolled over Northwest in a game that cemented Churchill as a 4A championship contender.

Defensive Player of the Week: Mike Cresham, Wootton
The always-aggressive and high-motor Cresham registered a 71-yard interception return for a touchdown for Wootton’s first score and anchored a defense that shut out a very solid Rockville squad.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Serge Kona, Gaithersburg
Kona returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown as the Trojans rebounded from a tough loss against Quince Orchard with a 31-6 victory over Blake.

Offensive Play of the Week: Malcolm Crockett, Einstein
Crockett plunged into the end zone late in the fourth quarter on a three-yard run to give Einstein a comeback 22-18 win over Northwood. Crockett, who also had a 78-yard touchdown run, carried the ball 36 times for 302 touchdowns and three touchdowns.

Defensive Play of the Week: Marcus Pollard, Springbrook
Pollard intercepted a Paint Branch pass in the end zone to seal a 15-12 Blue Devils victory.

Quote of the Week: Ryan Quinn, Churchill
“We came into the season, no one thought we were going to be great. I think we’ve shown the county we’re for real.”

Game of the Week: Richard Montgomery 38, Walter Johnson 30
In a battle of winless teams, Richard Montgomery scored three straight touchdowns and Walter Johnson couldn’t fully come back. One Rockets touchdown pass was caught after the ball bounced off the receiver’s own helmet.

Round-Up

Churchill 49, Northwest 27
The Bulldogs made a big statement against a good Northwest team. Curran Chabra, Ryan Quinn and Danny Holzman are a three-headed monster for Churchill.

Clarksburg 25, Bethesda-Chevy Chase 14
The Coyotes pulled away from the winless Barons with three unanswered touchdowns, two coming on passes from Cody Martin to Andrew Veith.

Damascus 41, Magruder 19
With sophomore quarterback Connor Frazier injured on the sidelines, Damascus junior running back Brian Lucas rushed 20 times for 289 yards and four touchdowns.

Samuel Banks 20, Poolesville 0

Seneca Valley 49, Wheaton 0
The Screamin’ Eagles remained undefeated and quarterback George Lerch had one of his finest days of the season, completing 5-of-9 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Sherwood 35, Blair 7
The Warriors didn’t need any late-game theatrics this time as they built a 35-0 lead at one point. Quarterback Zack Splain continued his torrid play, going 10-for-12 for 175 yards and three touchdowns to Chris Everett of 11, 9 and 13 yards, respectively.

Springbrook 15, Paint Branch 12
The two teams traded scores and it looked like Paint Branch might have the final say until Mitchell Pollard intercepted a pass in the end zone to seal the game. Springbrook’s Phoenix Butler-Poole was 10-of-15 for 85 yards and had the game-winning touchdown pass.

Wootton 20, Rockville 0
After the Patriots defense was shredded by Northwest the week before, it responded by shutting out a solid Rockville team. Mike Mooney completed 21-of-31 passes for 255 yards.
