Oxon Hill wins Parkdale Winter Blitz; C.H. Flowers earns second place
Parkdale High School hosted the Parkdale Blitz wrestling tournament on Saturday in which 20 teams took part in.
After a full day of competition, the Oxon Hill Clippers earned Winter Blitz team-championship honors boasting a line-up of six champions.
Oxon Hill’s Nigel Cross improved his matches-won streak to 46 with his championship in the 285-pound weight class.
As Cross continued his streak, a new accomplishment was achieved by Oxon Hill’s Robert Bailey (152) as the senior wrestler won his first wrestling title with his respective victory on the day.
Abby Solomon (112), Andre Wilcox (140), Herman Watkins (189), and Ralph Parson (215) each added championships for the Clippers.
C.H. Flowers earned second place as a team with 170.5 team points on the strength of Zane McBride’s championship in the 171-pound weight class.
The host Parkdale Panthers finished third overall and Parkdale’s Samuel Yirenkyi improved to 71-12 lifetime with his championship in the 119 bout.
Thomas Stone’s Zach Lohr (160) — named tournament’s most outstanding wrestler — defeated Parkdale’s Paul Tshikaya for the second time in one week with his major decision victory, 13-3.
